New gameplay feature
Tom Clancy games are all about tactical control of the battlefield. This comes not only from the soldiers’ capacity to adapt to evolving battlefield conditions, but also requires careful planning on behalf of the commander prior to deployment.
In TCES, there will be many more things to consider before heading into battle. The devs have been cooking up an exciting new gameplay feature that will be available in November:
The “Squad Perks” gameplay feature grants additional abilities to your squad in battle. You can obtain squad perks by combining specific sets of soldiers belonging to the same faction or with the same character trait in your squad.
NEW TRAIT ICONS, NEW FACTION SUBDIVISIONS
To make the identification of the traits of the characters, new icons have been created:
Also, some factions that contained more than 5 soldiers, have been subdivided into two or more factions in an effort to keep the game balanced. The R6 team has been divided into the Blue, Green and Red teams:
The Ghost Recon team has been divided into the Scott Mitchell (left) and Nomad (right) generations:
In the squad selection menu, the trait and faction of every character appear on the top-left corner of their cards. When teamed up with other soldiers from the same faction or with the same trait, your squad’s team bonus will grow exponentially.
For example, here we can see that Echo’s faction is the R6 Green team and his character trait is “composed”. Teaming him up with other characters from the same faction or with the same trait will grant your squad an additional ability.
SQUAD SELECTION MENU: NEW UI FEATURES
When selecting your squad, the icons for team bonuses will appear on the right side of the squad selection menu. One column for faction bonuses (pentagon-shaped), and one for trait bonuses (diamond-shaped).
TIERS: BRONZE, SILVER AND GOLD
Squad perks are generally organized in 3 tiers (bronze, silver and gold), depending on whether your squad has 2,3, or 5 characters from the same faction or with the same trait.
The more characters of the same trait or faction your squad has, the higher the tier, and the better the bonus.
Bonuses of the same trait/faction are not exclusive and can be stacked. If your squad has 5 characters of the same trait/faction, your squad will activate the bronze, silver as well as the gold team bonuses during the battle.
For example, this squad contains the full John Brown’s Army faction. This will give him two mercury laser shots during the battle (bronze and silver) and also upgrade the laser to confuse enemies in addition to dealing damage (gold).
TIME FOR BATTLE!
Activated bonuses Icons are displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen, next to the Orders. If the icon is highlighted, the bonus is active.
Now that you’re understood the basics of this new feature, it’s time to get back to the drawing board and try out new combinations of soldiers that will make your squad the best in the entire Tom Clancy’s videogame universe.
Good luck Commander!
